Today we did the Grand Circle Tour of the island of Oahu and were glad we chose this one as it took us up the eastern shore and then back down the middle. Hence we saw a heck of a lot of the landscape with the huge mountains and narrow, deep valleys. We stopped at a few lookouts and beaches like Waimera Bay about which the Beach Boys wrote a hit song. And a massive pineapple plantation where we enjoyed a pineapple soft serve to die for. For lunch we tried Huli Huli Chicken!Though there was heavy traffic, we weren't really held up till we got back to City where we were crawling along. To add to the time frame, a couple of blocks on the waterfront at Waikiki were blocked off for a festival tonight. Our guide told us that it can take one and half HOURS to drive the 8 miles from airport to Waikiki - whew!We walked down and had a bite to eat from one of the stalls there and followed that with a Gloria Jeans coffee. The streets were teeming with people and it was a bit difficult to walk through especially where the bands were playing on the stages. There are a lot to stalls selling jewellery.
You will find it hard to believe that the name of the festival was Spam Jam - yes in honour of the humble old spam which did not really take off in Australia. Apparently it is still popular in U S and there are quite a few different varieties to choose from now. Not my choice of meat!
It is almost 11pm so best off to bed ready for more adventure on the morrow!
A festival for Spam?? That's a worry. Yeah can't ever see that festival starting anytime soon in Australia. Sounds like it was a pretty good tour.
