17th Day New Orleans - Boston via Philadelphia
We were up before the alarm and were down to the taxi rank before 4.30. It was about a 20min trip costing about $40 including the dreaded tax and tips added to everything. Firstly we were in wrong queue so then off to another where we had to sign in ourselves and pay $25 per bag checked in. There was a huge queue for security but we made it in plenty of time for our 6.45 flt which was on time. The flt was overbooked and they were offering good incentives to wait for a later flt with vouchers and $600 in cash (I think). Anyway we had a connecting flt from Philadelphia. It was strange on both our flts today they did not give us seats together. Anyway, it didn't matter. The first flt was 2 and half hours and the second one hour. Luckily I heard announcements that we needed to advance our watches by one hour as Eric said when we got off we don't have to hurry as we have an hour but I said no, we have 5mins to get to the next gate for our flt so it was a very brisk walk I can tell you but we made it. We took a taxi to our hotel ($28) and gee, it is rather a come down from the posh places we have been staying as it is a YMCA. Our room is very clean and seems to have a new bathroom but the curtains were hanging down off the tracks. Anyway they sent a chap to do his best to fix. After a rest we went out looking for something to eat and found a little cafe. This is rather a strange area. It is near the old docks and I guess there are restrictions on signage with just small signs on the outside wall and not necessarily describing what is in there. There is a lovely little supermarket but unless someone told us about it we would have walked on by. After we had withdrawn money there we saw there was a bank next door. It seems there is a lot of health services, oncology and all sorts of MRI etc - all very discreet. Tomorrow we are looking at doing a city tour, hop on hop off. There have been some very light showers today but temp about 60deg.
